The Big Ketch Drops Anchor At Former Taco Stand In Buckhead

As I first reported last week, the group behind Tin Lizzy's will be taking over the former Taco Stand in Buckhead and launching a new concept late this Spring. The casual seafood restaurant will be called "The Big Ketch - Oyster Bar and Seafood Grill" paying homage to a favorite now-closed seafood restaurant in St. Petersburg, Florida. Observing a void in the market for diners not wanting the crappy chain feel and poor quality of Captain D's or Bonehead's, but without the "bread" for The Atlanta Fish Market, the group feels T.B.K. will fill that void. With offerings such as fresh grouper, you peel shrimp, crab legs and fresh oysters at prices in the low teens to low $20s, they seem to have done their homework. Think Steamhouse Lounge but more "shabby chic" less LuLu's Bait Shack (If you you know it, you know it, if not, ask someone who lived here when the "Streets of Buckhead" had more businesses than holes in the ground) Targeting a mid to late May opening, I can't wait to see what they have in store given my love for the soft tacos at Tin Lizzy's. (There's a third Tin Lizzy's under construction in Midtown.) ToNeTo Atlanta

Sounds great. Like Teeple's in Savannah GA. And they better have malt vinegar.

Reactionary! You're back! Yes, though I'm unfamiliar with Teeple's, the group is said to be modeling this concept after experiences they've had at places up the coastline from St. Pete to Sea Island, Savannah to Cape Cod.

When I lived in Savannah in the early 90's, I used to go to Teeple's, a local dive that sold large plates of fried seafood. They are apparently still around.

So ... if the Ketch will provide me casual atmosphere, good fried seafood, and cold beer, I will be a very happy customer.
