Crazy World We Live In When A Bar Like Locos Can't Stay Open

Locos Grill & Pub closed its Buckhead location this past Sunday. One of the original Locos years ago, this eatery seems to have been unable to sustain itself amongst newer competition in the area. No official word from Locos on the reason for the closure but its prized location next to Hole in the Wall and Trader Joe's should be of interest to eateries looking at entering the Atlanta market. Repeat Atlanta!

Very sad. A sign of the times I guess. Loco's had become a Buckhead institution for the "just out of college" crowd. I guess the average at best food and stoner service grew old and don't pay the bills in this horrendous recession we are in.

maybe that parcel of land will be redeveloped so the owner isn't re-newing leases?? I've heard there is a mini land assemblage in the works for that block . . .

The level of traffic looked decent, but that facility was getting pretty rank. Major improvements needed.

And please no, not another "mini land assemblage." There's one belly-up already down the street.

Agreed Reactionary! There was no upkeep in that space. However, it was a great place to grab a cold beer and sit out on Ptree in the afternoon. Loco's could have learned a thing or 2 from Taco Mac but they were too lazy. Those shady cat waiters and b'tenders were probably skimmin' left and right.

Only the strong operators survive in these unprecedented times.

I don't believe there is a land assembalge play. I know B. Carter wanted it at one time but I think he has enough on his plate. You can give people free land right now and they can't get the construction $$$ from banks or interest from retailers.

I was just in there last week and the supposed new owner came up and introduced himself and showed the new menu they were going to have...

Just drove by today.. sign out front says "new owner, new look, new attitude."

Yes, apparently the eatery will reopen in the coming weeks under new ownership but retain the Locos name.

The owners had been looking to sell for a while and it looks like they did. Loco's was a great spot to grab a bite to eat and have a cold brewski. No frills, good sports. It was a damn good spot and it will hopefully just get better. The lower smoking half was, well... smokie. I wouldn't mind seeing the smoking close all together. The Looney Bird is awesome!

Loco's food was horrible and the owners were idiots. Especially Brad Koontz. He got what he deserved.

Maybe he can get his granny to back him on another business or go to work for his daddy. Either way he'll never amount to much on his own in the real world.

Brad's ex-wife?

My two cents: lack of management controls and a menu that tried to do everything and--you've heard this before--ended up doing nothing well.

Buckhead's loss, because the area really needs a good, low key place to watch sports, not just a place where alcoholics go to get blind drunk.

Anonymous from 8/25 - wow . . . that is some really bitter stuff. Therapy might help.
